Policy
Privacy policy
Draft. This policy is under legal review and will be finalised before Equal Standard opens accounts and submissions.
The short version
- You can read everything on this site without an account. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
- If you submit evidence or ask for a correction, we keep what you send us privately. Your identity is never published.
- The Prepare Your Case tool stores your notes in your own browser. We never receive them.
- We do not sell or rent personal information.
What we collect
When you browse
The site is served by Google Firebase Hosting, which records standard request information such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, to deliver and secure the service. We do not add tracking of our own.
When you create an account
Your email address and a password, handled by Firebase Authentication (Google). You can optionally add a display name and choose whether to receive email updates about your submissions.
When you submit evidence
The details and links you submit, linked to your account so you can follow their status. Editors read submissions to decide what to publish. Published records never identify the person who submitted them.
When you request a correction
Your name, email address and the details of your request, so we can investigate and reply.
Prepare Your Case
Your checklist, timeline and notes are saved in your browser’s local storage on your device. They are not sent to us, and you can delete them at any time from the page.
Where your information is stored
Accounts, submissions and correction requests are stored with Google Cloud (Firebase) in the United States. Emails we send are processed by Amazon Web Services in Canada. Information stored in the United States is subject to US law and may be accessible to US authorities under that law.
How we use it
- To review submissions and correction requests, and to contact you about them.
- To run, secure and prevent abuse of the site.
- To meet legal obligations.
How long we keep it
Retention periods for each kind of information will be set and published here before accounts open.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it, and you can withdraw consent to optional uses. You can delete your account from your account settings once accounts open. Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA and BC’s Personal Information Protection Act) applies to how we handle your information.
Contact
A privacy contact will be listed here before accounts open. Requests about a published record can go through our corrections process.
